What you need, or how to get started

A beginner's guide: how many cloth diapers you need, which accessories to keep at home and how to start sensibly without a big upfront cost.
How to start with cloth diapers
Choosing cloth diapers is a choice for less waste, long-term savings and gentler skin care. At first the choice seems huge, but in reality you only need a few basics to begin. We recommend trying different brands and cuts first and only then buying a larger stock.
How many diapers you need
The quantity depends on how often you wash and how you dry. For full-time use, a rough guide is:
- Newborn: 24-36 cloth diapers (all-in-one or pocket).
- 2-6 months: about 20 day and 5 night diapers.
- 6 months and up: about 18 day and 3 night diapers.
Basic equipment
- Cloth diapers (all-in-one, pocket or fitted + cover pants).
- 24-48 cloth wipes for cleaning (homemade or bought).
- A lidded container or a waterproof wet bag for soiled diapers between washes.
- A smaller wet bag to take with you on the go.
What else comes in handy
- Extra absorbent inserts for more absorbency, especially at night.
- A Snappi or Boingo fastener for pinning fitted diapers.
- Liners that make removing stool easier.
- A rash cream suitable for cloth diapers.
- Dedicated swim diapers for bathing.
Tip: start with a small set of different brands to find out what suits your child best, and only then buy more. We are happy to advise you - write to us at info@pralne-plenicke.si.
